“Tell me a joke.”
“W….what?” the girl said feebly. He couldn’t be serious…could he?
“Not just any joke, though. It has to be funny.” he said, his voice too serious for him to be fooling with her.
“I…w-well…” she stammered, trying to think. Her head hadn’t exactly been full of funny thoughts, not since…
The Undertaker sighed, resigning to sit on one of the many coffins littered about his shop. This always happened. No one could ever think of anything, at least, nothing good. No one ever learned the lesson he offered…
He wanted to show people that being gloomy forever was a terrible thing, that some form of joy could be found, even in the darkest of miseries. Money was a cold, empty thing (not to mention it all had that dreadful queen printed on it), but a joke or a funny story, that encouraged people to look into themselves, to see that they still held happiness, despite the gloom that death brought.
They never learned. And he was always disappointed.
This is what happens when you watch too much Kuroshitsuji and read too deeply into things.

Honestly, I really didn't want to submit this, but there's this lil voice in my head, screaming DO IT FAGGOT. Said voice is a bit of a /b/-tard, but I digress.
This is pretty much a lil theory I thought of regarding the Undertaker's preferred method of payment.
Slightly OOC, maybe. Probably. Yeah. XD >>;

You don't read too deep into it ...well, either that or I'm supremely observant as well. I can really see him thinking like this though, generally because this would be my kind-of-sort-of mindset on things, and that helps one a bit. I also find that open-mindedness does, too, and as I am fairly open minded — rather, I try to be; sometimes things aren't as easy — this tends to show me another side of reality, so I figure that behind the smiles and giggles and what not that 'Taker really is quite disappointed with humanity.

I suppose that he's also quite the genius — one can't live for centuries and not gain a bit of knowledge.
However, I believe this shows more in the manga.
